Description
In the 1960's Hi began a process of trying to create a family tree. It continued through his retirement and to his death on February 14, 2011.
These two pictures are copies of copies of his paternal grandparents, Vera Blumen Bloom, who, in the middle of her life, came to the United States from Nezjin, Russia, and settled in Chicago. Her husband, Moisha Blumen, never came to the United States, died in Kyiv of heart problems.
For a wonderful description of the Blumen´s and life in Russia, read Mort´s first chapter in his book, connected here. Though, like any oral history, there are certain disagreements regarding some details (I was always told that L.A. Bloom came to the United States at the age of 16 in 1903, not 18 in 1905) the general history is consistent with what the family knows.
